Unicef: Forced and underage marriages increase with ban on girls' education in Afghanistan
The fund said on Monday that the closure of schools to girls has led to an increase in forced and underage marriages.
Forced and underage marriages have reportedly increased dramatically since the Taliban returned to power.
UNICEF says girls in Afghanistan face many challenges and the Taliban's restrictions have deepened gender inequality in the country.
The UN agency added that women and girls are deprived of their most basic rights.
The Taliban have banned female students from attending schools and universities since they returned to power.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said in a report that since September 2021, about 1.4 million girls above the sixth grade have been deprived of education in Afghanistan.
