Mr. Pence said Ebrahim Raisi was responsible for the murder of thousands of political prisoners and the killing of 1,500 protesters in 2019.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the killing of the Iranian president and his entourage, the families of the Islamic Republic's victims in messages referred to Ebrahim Raisi as "one of the most important human rights violators in the country."
They said the boss escaped trial with his death.
The former vice president also said that Ebrahim Raisi was responsible for years of terrorist violence that the Islamic Republic inflicted on the region and claimed American lives.
Ebrahim Raisi, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, along with seven others, died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
