Veteran with a history of war in Afghanistan has been elected by US Senate as Secretary of Defense

In the vote on Friday, February 26, Hegsett received 50 votes in favor and 50 votes against to confirm his qualifications for this position; however, with the arrival of J.D. Vance in the Senate, the tie was broken and Trump's deputy, Pete Hegsett, became the US Secretary of Defense with one vote in favor.
According to reports, Hegsett is a former Fox News anchor and a veteran who has a history of fighting in Afghanistan; but he faced strong opposition from Democrats and even three Republican members to confirm his qualifications for this position.
Pete Hegsett served in the US Army in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, and Afghanistan.
According to published information, Hexett was deployed to Afghanistan with the US Army National Guard between 2011 and 2012 and spent 10 months at Camp Julien in Kabul.
Meanwhile, the US Senate confirmed John Ratcliffe, a former member of the House of Representatives and Director of National Intelligence during Donald Trump's first term, as the new director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Pete Hegsett, Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense, has been confirmed to the position by the US Senate.
