Taliban: Unaccompanied women are better off dying than working outside the home

According to sources, Taliban officials said after congregational prayers in Lal Wasr Jangal district of Ghor province on Saturday that "widows and orphans should die instead of working outside the home."

However, sources say a number of elders in Sarjangal district protested the Taliban's decision to ban women from working; But the Taliban's official said in response that women would rather die than work outside the home.

Meanwhile, the Taliban's new law declares the face, body and voice of girls and women as "awrat" and declares their appearance in front of a "non-mahram" a crime.

Local sources in Ghor say Taliban accountants have told people that no woman has the right to work outside the home and should not leave the house without a mahram.
