Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed to AFP on Wednesday (January 25) that Pakistan had bombed four locations in Barmal district of Paktika province.

He added that at least 46 people were killed in these attacks, most of whom were women and children.

On Tuesday night, January 24, the Pakistani army targeted areas in the Barmal district of Paktika with heavy airstrikes.

Sources close to the Pakistani army have announced that the bases and commanders of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were targeted in these attacks;

however, the Afghan Taliban have responded by saying that Waziristan refugees were killed and injured in the attacks. However, Inayatullah Khawarizmi, a spokesman for the Taliban's Ministry of Defense, rejected the claims of Pakistani security sources and wrote that "civilians, mostly Waziristan refugees, were killed in these attacks."

Pakistan has always claimed that the Afghan Taliban supported the Pakistani Taliban movement and provided sanctuary to the group, but the Taliban has denied any support for the TTP.

A Taliban spokesman announced that at least 46 people, including children and women, were killed in Pakistani airstrikes on Barmal, Paktika.
