Australian Taliban lobbyist dies unexpectedly in Kabul

The Taliban's Interior Ministry spokesman wrote in a note on Wednesday (January 19) that Timothy Weeks is suffering from cancer.

Abdul Matin Qane added that Timothy Weeks "worked as an English teacher in Kabul and loved Afghanistan and the Taliban, and for that reason he preferred to live in Kabul."

Abdul Mateen Qane said that the Australian citizen had converted to Islam and changed his name from Timothy Weeks to Gabriel Omar.

Timothy Weeks, an Australian citizen, was a former Taliban prisoner who was released in a prisoner exchange between the former government and the Taliban.

He returned to Kabul after the Taliban returned to power and continued to praise the Taliban.
