Russia expresses concern over escalation of tensions between Taliban and Pakistan

The Russian Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement on Saturday (January 28) that it is concerned about the escalation of tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan on the border.

The statement said: "Moscow is concerned about the escalation of tensions on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where not only soldiers, but also civilians are being killed as a result of clashes."

The Russian Foreign Ministry, citing a ministry spokesman, wrote that it has called on the Taliban and Pakistan to peacefully resolve their differences through "constructive dialogue."

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, January 24, Pakistani army fighter jets targeted areas of Barmal, Paktika Province, with airstrikes.

The Taliban announced the death toll in Pakistani airstrikes on Paktika as 46. Meanwhile, the Taliban Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday, January 28, three days after the Pakistani airstrike on Barmal, Paktika Province, that it had launched retaliatory attacks.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says that Russia wants restraint from Islamabad and the Taliban on the Pakistani border.
