Richard Bennett: Religious minorities are in grave danger under Taliban rule

In a message on X-ray on Friday, Bennett said religious minorities in Afghanistan remained under serious threat.

He condemned the deaths of 10 people in the attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

"Religious minorities are at serious risk. All Afghan citizens have the right to worship in peace. More prevention, protection and justice are needed," the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights wrote.

Unidentified gunmen stormed the shrine of Sayed Padshah Agha Sadat in the old town of Nahrin district of Baghlan province on Thursday night and shot dead several worshippers.

The motive for the killing is still unclear and no group has claimed responsibility.

However, Abdul Ghayoor Khadim, the security chief of the Taliban's security command in Baghlan, confirmed the incident and said several suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack.

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Afghanistan, condemned the attack on Sufi worshipers in Baghlan, which killed at least 11 people.
