Students of the Afghanistan Institute of Music Perform in New York, Washington

The concerts will be held in New York on August 16 and in Washington, DC on August 17, Sarmast said. The concerts will be held at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

Sarmast asked the audience to celebrate "the beauty and diversity of Afghan music" with them.

The Zohreh Orchestra and the Afghanistan Youth Orchestra, composed of male and female students, are two music groups that perform under the umbrella of the Afghan National Music Institute.

The Afghan National Music Institute was shut down after the Taliban came to power in August 2014 and its students went to Portugal to continue their artistic activities.

Ahmad Sarmast, head of the Afghan National Music Institute, said the Zohreh Orchestra and the Afghan Youth Orchestra are scheduled to give concerts in New York and Washington, DC.
