US-Taliban prisoner exchange; Taliban announce release of one of their members from US prison

The Taliban ministry announced in a statement on Tuesday (February 2) the release of their member from a US prison.
The statement said that Khan Mohammad was arrested in Nangarhar two decades ago and sentenced to life imprisonment by a US court, but was released and returned to Afghanistan following a swap.
The Taliban added that Khan Mohammad was serving his sentence in the US state of California. The group's Foreign Ministry wrote: "The Taliban considers this exchange a good example of resolving issues through negotiations and especially thanks the brotherly country of Qatar for its effective role in this regard."
However, the group did not specify which American prisoner Khan Mohammad was released in exchange for; but CNN reported that Ryan Corbett and William McEntee, two American citizens, were released from the group's custody in exchange for the release of a Taliban prisoner.
American officials have not yet said anything about the prisoner exchange with the Taliban.
Previously, American officials had said that seven US citizens, including Ryan Corbett, Golzman, and Mahmoud Shah Habibi, were being held in Taliban custody.
The Taliban's Foreign Ministry announced that a member of the group, Khan Mohammad, had been released as a result of a prisoner exchange with the United States.
