US veterans call for resumption of repatriation of Afghan refugees to US







The letter, sent to the ministers of foreign affairs, defense and homeland security, called for Afghan citizens to be exempted from Trump's executive order suspending asylum seekers.
Shawn Vandiver, head of the Afghan Oak Coalition, expressed concern about the consequences of not transferring Afghan allies, calling it a threat to lose confidence and damage local support for US forces in the future.
He also pointed to the plight of 3,000 Afghan refugees in camps in Qatar and Albania and called for immediate action to resolve the crisis.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that former Afghan colleagues of US forces waiting to be transferred to the country are in limbo after President Donald Trump ordered a suspension of asylum seekers.
A coalition of US veterans has written to senior US officials calling for the resumption of the process of transferring Afghan refugees to the country.
