UN-HCHR calls for immediate end to Taliban's discriminatory policies against women

He asked the Taliban to immediately cancel their discriminatory policies against women and girls.
Mr. Turk, in a statement today (Friday, 9th of August) in a continuation of the 16-day campaign to eradicate violence against women, said that the women of Afghanistan have witnessed a severe weakening of their human rights in the past three years.
Referring to the restrictions on women's work and education, this United Nations official said that these restrictive measures have excluded women and girls from public life and imprisoned them in their homes, which is a form of systematic gender-based harassment.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has also emphasized on accountability and strengthening the voice of Afghan women by any means possible.
This is despite the fact that six countries, including Chile, Costa Rica, Spain, France, Luxembourg and Mexico, have recently referred the case of the situation in Afghanistan, especially the violation of women's rights in Afghanistan, to the International Criminal Court.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said that justice for Afghan women is non-negotiable, referring to increasing restrictions by the Taliban against women.
