Asif Durrani: TTP operates under the auspices of the Haqqani Network in eastern Afghanistan

In an article published in the journal Strategic Research on Monday, Durrani wrote that the Taliban government openly supports the Pakistani Taliban.

In the article, he pointed to the Haqqani network's history of closeness to Pakistani intelligence, saying the network plays the role of friend and foe at the same time.

He stressed that the Pakistani Taliban are more aligned with the Haqqani faction in the Taliban government in Afghanistan than the Kandahar leadership.

The former Pakistani envoy added that the leaders of the Pakistani Taliban live in areas controlled by the Haqqani network.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of supporting and harboring the Pakistani Taliban. But the Afghan Taliban have always denied the claim.

Former Pakistani envoy to Afghanistan Asif Durrani says the Haqqani network has supported the Pakistani Taliban and provided them with safe havens in eastern Afghanistan.
