Thousands of Afghan citizens are in limbo as U.S. refugee program suspends

These people, who were previously approved for departure, are now in danger.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting the program, declaring that the US could not accept any more immigrants. Despite the ban being lifted by a federal judge, the refugee admission process has not yet returned to normal.
In addition, the US government has stated that resuming the program will take time due to reduced financial and human resources. Also, the federal budget cut has prevented even holders of Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) from leaving, forcing them to cover their own travel expenses.
CBS News reported that more than 40,000 Afghan citizens who supported the US military in Afghanistan are in an uncertain situation due to the suspension of the refugee admission program.
