Syria's interim government appointed a woman as head of women's affairs

Aisha al-Dibs is the first woman to be appointed to a position in the new Syrian government led by the Islamist group Tahrir al-Sham.

Meanwhile, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani has been appointed as Foreign Minister and Marhef Abu Qasra has been appointed as Syrian Defense Minister.

Aisha Al-Dibs was appointed as the head of women's affairs at a time when there were concerns that the role and rights of women would be ignored and violated in Syria's new structure.

This is while groups opposing Bashar al-Assad, led by Tahrir al-Sham, ended five decades of Assad family rule over Syria by conquering Damascus on December 9.

In the latest developments in Syria, the country's new rulers have appointed Aisha al-Dibs as head of the country's Women's Affairs Office.
