Anas Haqqani: Removal of Haqqanis' name from US wanted list is a "political achievement"

He said in an interview with Al Jazeera that the issue was agreed upon in the Doha talks and could pave the way for improved relations with the United States.

Former CIA agent Sarah Adams, on the other hand, called the move a "reward for terrorists" and stressed that Sirajuddin Haqqani was responsible for directing hundreds of suicide attacks against US forces.

The move comes as a US delegation recently visited Kabul and met with Taliban officials, including Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki.

It is not yet clear what impact the meetings will have on future US policy towards the Taliban.

Anas Haqqani, a senior Taliban member, called the removal of Sirajuddin Haqqani and two other members of the Haqqani network from the US wanted list a "political achievement."
