World Education Day; President Karzai once again calls for immediate reopening of schools for girls

In a message on the X user account on Friday, February 5, Mr. Karzai described education as the main factor in the prosperity and well-being of society.

He has once again called on the Taliban to immediately reopen educational centers to female students.

The former president wrote: “Education is vital to the well-being and prosperity of society. Only through knowledge and understanding can Afghanistan free itself from dependence on outsiders and achieve its rightful place in the global community.”

He also expressed hope that the necessary conditions for achieving knowledge and understanding will be provided in the country and called on all parties to take the necessary steps to reopen educational institutions.

Previously, Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, also said on the occasion of World Education Day that Afghanistan is the only country where girls' education is prohibited, and this ban must end.

Mr. Bennett considered the Taliban's ban on girls' education a severe violation of human rights and called for an end to the ban.

On the occasion of World Education Day, former President Hamid Karzai has emphasized the importance of knowledge in achieving freedom and progress for Afghanistan.
