ICC chief prosecutor calls for arrest of Taliban leader, chief justice

Karim Khan said the two Taliban leaders were responsible for "crimes against humanity" and gender-based violence in Afghanistan under the Rome Statute.

Karim Khan said in a statement on the official website of the International Criminal Court on Thursday that he had submitted a request for an arrest warrant for the Taliban leader and the Taliban's chief justice to the second preliminary chamber of the Hague Tribunal.

"Today, I can announce that my office has submitted two requests for arrest warrants to the Second Preliminary Chamber of the International Criminal Court," the statement said.

The request has been widely welcomed by international human rights organizations and human rights activists.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has called for the arrest of Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah and Supreme Court chief Abdul Hakim Haqqani.
