OCHA on Tuesday thanked Denmark for its new aid to the people of Afghanistan, saying it would increase their ability to care for those in need.

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme's office in Afghanistan announced on Monday that the European Union had provided €16.5 million to help vulnerable communities in winter.

The World Food Program said earlier that at least 14.8 million people in Afghanistan would need urgent humanitarian assistance next winter.

OCHA had previously requested $3.06 billion to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. According to the UN, more than 23 million people in Afghanistan are in need of assistance.

Denmark has donated $2.8 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
