"We are trying to free Ryan Corbett, Mahmoud Habibi and George Gulzman from Taliban custody," West told Ax on Sunday.
Ryan Corbett and Mahmoud Habibi were arrested in separate incidents in August 2022, a year after the Taliban took control. A third American, George Gulzman, was later arrested by the Taliban in 2022 while visiting Afghanistan as a tourist.
Meanwhile, the wife of Ryan Corbett, an American citizen in Taliban prison, says she has not received a response despite repeated requests to meet with the national security adviser and the US president.
Anna Corbett has asked US officials to give her an appointment to release her husband from Taliban prison.
US officials have confirmed that three US citizens are in Taliban custody.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman said the group was willing to exchange the American citizens.
A US National Security Council spokesman said the country was working with Taliban representatives to seek the immediate release of its citizens.
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West says the US government is working to return three Afghan citizens held by the Taliban to their families.
