U.S. Senate confirms anti-Taliban figure Marco Rubio as new U.S. secretary of state

Marco Rubio was confirmed by the Senate as Trump's first cabinet member on Monday (January 20), just hours after the inauguration.
Marco Rubio is a prominent figure opposed to the Taliban who had called for the group to be recognized as a terrorist organization.
Mr. Rubio also introduced a bill last year calling for the suspension of US aid to the United Nations in Afghanistan.
He said that American taxpayer dollars should not benefit terrorist organizations, including the Taliban; but unfortunately, we are witnessing this scenario today.
It is worth noting that a number of members of Trump's cabinet, including the national security advisor, are figures opposed to the Taliban.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate as the Trump administration's new Secretary of State.
