World Education Day; UNAMA reiterates call for an end to the ban on girls' education in Afghanistan

UNAMA wrote in a note on its X account on Friday (Friday, 5 December) that Afghan girls have been deprived of their basic right to education for 1,225 days.

UNAMA Director-General Rosa Otunbayeva has called the Taliban's ban on girls' education a tragedy for millions of Afghan girls.

The UNAMA chief said no country has progressed by leaving behind half of its population and the Taliban should allow girls to go to school.

The Taliban have returned to power in Afghanistan and banned students above the sixth grade from attending school and female students from attending universities.

The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan has called on the Taliban to end the ban on girls' education on the occasion of World Education Day.
