Belarus prevents largest shipment of explosives from entering Russia

According to Belarusian authorities, the materials, weighing about 580 kilograms, were packed in a Mercedes-Benz minivan, and the 41-year-old driver intended to transport them to Russia by crossing the Polish-Belarusian border.

The man was identified and detained while crossing the border, and investigations showed that the explosives were of foreign manufacture. Russian media, citing Belarusian customs, suggested that the materials were made in the United States.

Belarusian customs called the discovery the largest seizure of explosives in its history.

Meanwhile, Russia's security service reported last year that it had discovered a bomb shipment originating in Ukraine. Authorities are investigating a possible connection between the two incidents.

Belarusian customs announced that it had prevented the entry of more than half a ton of highly explosives into Russian territory.
