Corporal punishment continues; Taliban announce execution of two in Paktia

According to the statement, these two individuals were punished on Sunday, 5 Asad, for the crime of theft.

According to the Taliban's Supreme Court, these individuals received 30 and 39 lashes, respectively, in the presence of the group's authorities and the public.

The statement noted that the accused were also sentenced to ten months of imprisonment and eight months of detention.

However, the Taliban did not disclose the identities of the accused.

The Taliban describe the execution of such rulings as part of "Islamic Sharia"; however, they usually do not publish details regarding the trial and judicial process of the accused.

This comes as international human rights organizations have repeatedly expressed concern over the lack of a fair judicial system and the increase in corporal punishments in Afghanistan.

Since the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, punishments such as public whipping and the enforcement of strict rulings have significantly increased.

The Taliban's Supreme Court announced in a statement that two individuals were publicly whipped in the Samkani district of Paktia province.
