Taliban sends delegation to Belarus to assess condition of Afghan prisoners

The purpose of this trip has been stated as meeting with Afghan prisoners in that country and discussing with Belarusian officials the issues and the manner of transferring them to Afghanistan.

The dispatch of this delegation is taking place at a time when the Swiss state media had previously reported that four Taliban diplomats had traveled to Geneva to identify Afghans who have been convicted of crimes.

Swiss officials have confirmed that this delegation did not leave the premises of Geneva Airport during their stay and only carried out the identification process.

According to the Swiss Migration Office, the identification of the "majority" of the individuals has been successfully completed, and initial actions for their return have begun.

Although no exact figure has been provided for the number of Afghan prisoners in Belarus and Switzerland; however, the spokesperson for the Taliban Foreign Ministry had previously announced that approximately 12,000 Afghan citizens are being held in prisons in various countries around the world.

The Taliban embassy in Moscow has announced that a delegation led by Hafiz Abdullah Yaser, an advisor to this embassy, has set off for Belarus.
