Islamic Republic official: Taliban has agreed to Iran's extraterritorial cultivation on Afghan soil

Amirollah Shamghadri said that the Taliban administration has expressed readiness for Iran's extraterritorial cultivation to be carried out in that country, and therefore action will be taken in this direction.

The Tasnim News Agency, in a report on Tuesday, November 18 [27 Aqrab], quoting Shamghadri, wrote that 85 percent of Razavi Khorasan's water is consumed in the agricultural sector and that we must pursue modern agriculture.

This Iranian official has described the water shortage in Razavi Khorasan as very serious and critical.

Meanwhile, Nasrollah Pezeshkianfar, a member of the Iranian parliament, also referring to the water shortage in Mashhad, called for the release of water from Afghanistan's dams to supply drinking water for this city. He added that discussions have been held with the first vice president of Iran on this matter so that the release of water from Afghanistan's dams can be pursued.

The head of the West Asia Studies Group and International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic also said last year that Iran can utilize the capacity within Afghanistan for extraterritorial cultivation.

Iran's Water Resources Management Company also announced in the month of Jauza this year that the most important source of drinking water supply for Mashhad, the Doosti Dam, has reached "dead volume."

The water of the Doosti Dam, located in Turkmen soil and near the Iranian border, is supplied from rivers in Afghanistan, especially the Hari River.

The Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported, quoting the deputy for security and law enforcement of Razavi Khorasan Province's governorate, that the Taliban has agreed to Iran's extraterritorial cultivation in Afghan soil.
