Taliban claims to have collected and destroyed 15 billion Afghanis of worn-out money

The Central Bank, under Taliban control, stated in a press release on Saturday, 12 Mizan, that digitizing financial transactions is priority for the bank, and efforts to develop digital banking are ongoing.


The Central Bank has asked the country's citizens to take care in handling paper currency and to use digital cards for financial transactions.


According to the bank's officials, millions of Afghanis in worn-out banknotes are collected and destroyed annually. They say that a large number of banknotes become old and unusable before reaching their usual lifespan due to improper use.

The Taliban say that over the past four, have removed 15 billion Afghanis of worn-out paper currency from market circulation.
