Following the attack on National Guard troops; US representatives call for immigration reform

This incident has inflamed the political atmosphere, with Republican representatives once again emphasizing the need for fundamental reforms to the country's immigration system.

Harriet Hageman, the Republican representative from Wyoming, criticized the current US administration's approach, stating that immigration policies since the fall of Afghanistan have paved the way for security risks. She stressed that the criteria for admitting immigrants to the United States must be seriously reviewed.

Randy Fine, the representative from Florida, took an even tougher stance, including against legal immigration, and stated that some individuals who have been granted entry, residency, or citizenship hold views that contradict American values, and the admission process must be reformed with greater scrutiny.

Meanwhile, two other Republican representatives, Rich McCormick and Austin Scott from Georgia, while emphasizing the need for measured reforms, expressed support for legal immigration. According to them, the immigration system should be flexible and tailored to the US economy's needs in sectors such as construction, healthcare, technology, and agriculture.

McCormick said that the number of immigrants accepted should be determined annually based on the US economy's capacities and needs. Scott also stressed that legal immigration is beneficial when individuals have the ability to adapt to American culture and laws.

These debates have peaked amid an incident on November 25 in the US capital, during which a National Guard member was killed and another person was injured. The attacker has been identified as an Afghan refugee.

Following this event, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced that the process of accepting immigrants from 19 "high-risk" countries, including Afghanistan, has been suspended until further notice. He described this decision as part of the administration's efforts to strengthen national security and prevent the entry of individuals who may pose a potential threat.

Trump stated that the United States needs stricter oversight and control over the immigrant entry process to protect its citizens.

Following a controversial incident in Washington where an Afghan refugee was accused of attacking National Guard forces, debates over immigration policies have intensified in the US House of Representatives.
