Asif Durrani: Taliban's denial of presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan is regrettable

On Tuesday (30 Mizan), in a television interview, he called the Taliban's denial of the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan "regrettable."

Durrani emphasized that concerns about the presence of these groups are not solely Pakistan's claims, but the United Nations has also documented the presence of international terrorists in Afghanistan.

However, the Taliban have consistently rejected these claims.

Pakistan's former representative added that the Taliban must take practical steps to curb the activities of terrorist groups, particularly the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

In addition to Pakistan, influential regional countries such as Russia and China, which have close ties with the Taliban, have also expressed concerns about the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, the Taliban claim that no terrorist groups are active in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Taliban's Minister of Defense, in response to criticisms regarding the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, stated that this group is not a terrorist organization but rather a movement opposing the Pakistani government.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, further explained that there is no clear and universally accepted definition of the term "terrorism," and governments typically use this label to suppress their opponents.

Asif Durrani, Pakistan's former representative, says Afghanistan has become a safe haven for the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS.
