Russia War Crimes; UN Confirms Deliberate Attacks on Ukrainian Civilians

This international body states that Russia's widespread attacks using drones have targeted civilian infrastructure, including people's homes, medical centers, electrical facilities, and educational buildings.

The report states that many of the attacks examined were deliberate in nature and part of an organized Russian policy to force residents of targeted areas to abandon their places of residence.

The commission emphasized that these attacks have caused widespread fear among civilians and have severely worsened their living conditions, to the extent that some areas have been reported as "almost deserted."

Although no specific individual or official is named in this report, the overall responsibility for these actions has been attributed to Russia's armed forces and government officials.

The commission also cited the forced transfer of civilians from occupied areas to Russian territory, particularly in southeastern Ukraine, as another example of a war crime. According to the findings of this body, these transfers were often carried out without prior notice or opportunity for victims to prepare, and cases of detention, interrogation, torture, and property confiscation have also been reported.

The United Nations further recalled that Russia had previously been accused of forcibly transferring Ukrainian children to its territory. Following these accusations, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, in March 2023, a ruling that the Kremlin described as "political and unacceptable" and rejected the court's jurisdiction.

The United Nations Truth-Finding Commission, in its latest report, has announced that it has obtained substantial evidence of "war crimes" committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.
