Fire at shopping mall in Iraq kills 61

This incident occurred on Wednesday at the five-story "Al-Karnish Hypermarket" store and caused significant damage.


Iraqi media reported on Thursday that the victims included men, women, and children, with most of them succumbing to thick smoke while inside restrooms.


Iraq's Ministry of Interior described the incident as "deeply tragic" and stated that this disaster has shaken the collective conscience of the Iraqi people. It was also confirmed that the bodies of 14 individuals remain unidentified.


Meanwhile, the ministry praised the efforts of the rescue teams, adding that the emergency forces, with courage and dedication, managed to save more than 45 people trapped in the building.

Following a massive fire at a large shopping center in the city of Kut in eastern Iraq, at least 61 people lost their lives.
