Arbitrary sentences continue; Taliban announce execution of four people in Jawzjan

According to the statement released on Wednesday, 1 Asad, these individuals were sentenced and punished with 20 lashes each in the Qush-Tepa district of Jawzjan province.

The Taliban describe the implementation of such rulings as part of "Islamic Sharia"; however, they usually do not publish details regarding the trial and judicial process of the accused.

This comes as international human rights organizations have repeatedly expressed concern over the lack of a fair judicial system and the increase in corporal punishments in Afghanistan.

Since the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, punishments such as public lashings and the enforcement of strict rulings have significantly increased.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly called such punishments a clear violation of human rights and demanded their cessation; however, the Taliban continue to insist on maintaining these practices.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Taliban also announced in another statement the execution of lashing sentences on two other individuals, including one woman, in Takhar province.

The Taliban's Supreme Court announced in a statement that four individuals, including one woman, have been punished in public for "illicit relationships."
