Taliban censors images of female Dutch cabinet ministers

This is not a new action; Taliban-controlled media have repeatedly censored images of women in the past as well.

The matter began when Caspar Veldkamp, the Dutch Foreign Minister, along with a number of ministers from the "New Social Contract" party, resigned after failing to gain cabinet support for imposing new sanctions against Israel.

Bakhtar News Agency covered this topic in a report; however, it removed images of the female ministers who resigned.

Critics say that the Taliban not only in Afghanistan, but even in reflecting international developments, pursue a policy of eliminating women from the public sphere.

Over the past four years, the Taliban have severely restricted media freedom. The presence of women on television has been minimized, female presenters are forced to completely cover their faces, and many cultural and artistic programs have been subjected to severe censorship.

In addition, based on a decree by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, the publication of images of living beings has been banned in many provinces.

Bakhtar News Agency, a media outlet under Taliban control, on Sunday, in a report about the resignation of Dutch cabinet members, erased images of female ministers and only displayed the faces of male ministers.
