Pakistani Foreign Ministry: Taliban minister's statements are against common sense and facts

Abdul Latif Mansoor had previously stated that Pakistan cannot tolerate a strong central government in Afghanistan and makes no distinction between the Taliban and the Mujahideen. He also claimed that Islamabad fears Afghanistan’s independence and self-sufficiency under any government.

Shafqat Ali Khan, on Friday (17 Asad), emphasized in a press conference that no country benefits more from Afghanistan’s stability and security than Pakistan. He added that he would raise these remarks with Taliban authorities.

He further announced the elevation of diplomatic relations between the two sides to the ambassadorial level, stating that the Taliban’s ambassador in Pakistan enjoys all official protocols. According to him, this elevation has been completed, and no further action is needed in this regard.

The spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry also announced that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, will visit Islamabad in the future, although the exact timing of this visit has not yet been specified.

These developments come at a time when relations between the two sides have been marked by verbal tensions and mutual criticisms in recent months.

Shafqat Ali Khan, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, described the recent remarks by Abdul Latif Mansoor, the Taliban’s Minister of Energy and Water, as contrary to historical common sense and reality.
