Second round of talks; Islamabad, Taliban discuss ceasefire, counter-terrorism in Istanbul

According to the spokesperson of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, this meeting is a continuation of the Doha negotiations that led to a ceasefire between the two countries.

He added that Pakistan hopes that in these discussions, a mechanism will be established to monitor terrorist threats from Afghan soil.

The Taliban have also sent a delegation to Turkey, headed by the Deputy Minister of Interior. The two sides are scheduled to discuss the outstanding issues from the first round of talks.

Pakistan says that militants of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have taken refuge in Afghan soil; however, the Taliban have rejected this claim and emphasized that Afghan soil is not a threat to any country.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry has announced that the second round of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan will be held today (Saturday, October 25) in Istanbul, Turkey.
