Tom Barrack, on Saturday (October 31), on the sidelines of the annual security and political "Manama Dialogue" summit in Bahrain, told journalists that he hopes Syria will join the U.S.-led coalition to defeat ISIS.


Ahmad Sharaa's trip will be the first official visit by a Syrian president to the capital of the United States. To date, no Syrian president has made an official visit to Washington.


Ahmad Sharaa assumed power in Syria following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime and has begun a series of foreign trips to revive Syria's relations with global powers, which had been severely restricted during the Assad era.

The United States Special Envoy for Syria has announced that Ahmad Sharaa, President of Syria, will travel to Washington in two weeks' time.
