Pakistani Defense Minister: Taliban not true representative of Afghan people

Asif described the statements of Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, as "malicious and misleading." Mujahid had previously said that differing approaches exist between Pakistan's civilian and military institutions regarding relations with Kabul, and that the military in that country seeks to undermine these relations.

Pakistan's Defense Minister, rejecting these remarks, emphasized that Islamabad's political and military leadership have "complete consensus" on the country's security policies. He added that the people of Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, are aware of the "treacherous support" provided by the Afghan Taliban to terrorism backed by India.

Khawaja Asif wrote on his X page that four years after the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, the group has still failed to fulfill the promises it made to the international community. He said the Taliban is attempting to conceal its lack of cohesion, stability, and governance capacity through propaganda slogans and by playing the role of a proxy for foreign elements.

He also accused the Taliban of "suppressing ethnic groups, women, and minorities" and "stifling fundamental rights to freedom of expression, education, and representation," stating that Pakistan's policy of protecting its citizens from cross-border terrorism and the ideology of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan is a unified and steadfast one.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan's Defense Minister, in response to recent remarks by the Taliban spokesperson, stated that the Taliban regime does not truly represent the people of Afghanistan and suffers from internal rifts and divisions.
