Diplomat or Taliban supporter; Khalilzad threatens Taliban political critic with dire consequences

Mr. Sharifzad, by publishing a video and images of Khalilzad's threatening conversations, wrote: "Khalilzad has threatened me that if I do not stop exposing him and his brothers [the Taliban], I will face dire consequences."

According to Sharifzad, Khalilzad defended the Taliban's positions in these messages and issued serious warnings due to his criticisms of the group.

In one of the messages that this Taliban critic published on X, Khalilzad warned him that "dire consequences" await him and asked him to refrain from publishing content "against him and the Taliban government."

The publication of these messages has also provoked reactions from some users. They, referring to the tone and content of the messages, have written that such communications could constitute a threat in online spaces and likely provide grounds for legal pursuit.

Zalmay Khalilzad, former US ambassador and special envoy of this country on Afghan affairs, is known as one of the key figures in the formation of the Doha Agreement. After the Taliban's return to power, he has traveled to Kabul several times and, in media interviews, has repeatedly defended the Taliban's approach.

Ahmad Sharifzad, a political activist critical of the Taliban, has announced that Zalmay Khalilzad has sent him messages containing threatening content.
