Public Violence; Taliban Announce Execution of Flogging Sentences on 15 People in Kabul

The court wrote in the newsletter on Thursday, the sixth of Qaws, that these individuals were sentenced to seven months to three years of suspended imprisonment and received 10 to 39 lashes.

The newsletter stated that, based on the Taliban’s primary court ruling to combat narcotics, these individuals were punished in the presence of officials from the group and local people on charges of selling tablets, Zikp, alcoholic beverages, powder, crystal meth, and hashish.

According to the Taliban's Supreme Court, in the past two weeks, at least 71 individuals have been publicly flogged on various charges.

With the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, corporal punishments and executions of Afghan citizens on various charges have resumed publicly.

International human rights organizations have repeatedly opposed these punishments, deeming them violations of human rights and human dignity. Nevertheless, the Taliban consider these actions the implementation of Islamic Sharia and have emphasized that they will not relent on them.

The Taliban's Supreme Court announced in a newsletter that 15 individuals have been flogged on charges of selling and trafficking narcotics in Kabul.
