Nasir Ahmad Fayeq: The adoption of the Human Rights Council resolution is a historic victory

He emphasized that this action is a significant step toward ensuring justice in the country.

On Tuesday (15 Mizan), Mr. Faiq wrote in a post on the social media platform X that this decision sends a strong message to the Taliban.

He added: “Impunity will not be tolerated, and justice and human rights will prevail.”

Faiq stressed that this resolution establishes an international accountability mechanism and extends the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan.

This comes as the UN Human Rights Council, on Monday, 14 Mizan, approved the establishment of a mechanism to investigate and examine human rights violations in Afghanistan. The goal of this mechanism is to document instances of human rights violations to pave the way for reporting, advocacy, and the legal prosecution of those responsible for these violations.

Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s representative to the United Nations, says the adoption of a UN Human Rights Council resolution to establish an independent investigation mechanism regarding human rights violations in Afghanistan is considered a historic victory.
