The ministry stated in a report that this campaign will begin in 17 provinces of the country on Monday, the 3rd of Qaws, and will continue until Thursday. According to the Ministry of Health, this program is being implemented in Afghanistan with the cooperation of international organizations.

The statement also indicated that this round of vaccination will cover 179 districts in 17 provinces.

Based on official information, approximately 7.4 million children under five years old in the provinces of Kabul, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Nuristan, Balkh, Kunduz, Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, Ghazni, Khost, Paktia, Paktika, Herat, and Farah are scheduled to be vaccinated during this period.

The World Health Organization stated in its report for the month of Aqrab this year that despite a decrease in polio cases in Afghanistan, the risk of virus transmission remains high in the southern regions bordering Pakistan. According to this report, four new cases of type 1 poliovirus have been recorded in Afghanistan since the beginning of this year.

Another part of the report stated that from the beginning of 2025 until September 17, four cases of wild type 1 poliovirus have been identified in Afghanistan and 24 cases in Pakistan.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries in the world where polio cases are still being reported.

The Ministry of Health under Taliban control has announced the launch of the fourth sub-round of children's polio vaccination campaign in 2025.
