Pakistan Defense Minister: Talks with Taliban to resume if Turkey, Qatar propose

Mr. Asif stated in an interview with Geo News on (Monday, 19th of Aqrab) that Turkey and Qatar are close friends of Pakistan, and Islamabad cannot ignore their request to continue the talks.


Pakistan's Defense Minister also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, and added that the Taliban verbally accepted some issues during the Istanbul negotiations; however, they were not willing to provide written guarantees.


Asif emphasized that the Taliban "are not monolithic" and that this issue has been one of the main obstacles to reaching a final agreement.


The third round of negotiations between the Taliban and Pakistan on Sunday, 18th of Aqrab, in Istanbul ended without results, and both sides accused each other of raising difficult conditions and hindering the progress of the negotiations.

Pakistan's Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, announced that if a proposal is presented by Turkey and Qatar, there is a possibility of resuming negotiations with the Taliban.
