UN: Eight out of ten Afghan citizens drink contaminated water

UNICEF stated in a report on (Wednesday, November 11) that, in addition to recent crises, access to safe water for millions of Afghan citizens has been severely restricted.

The report states that Afghanistan is one of the countries that suffers the most damage from climate change, while having no share in creating this crisis.

According to this United Nations-affiliated organization, the collapse of urban health systems due to natural disasters and environmental destruction has led to an increase in the prevalence of waterborne diseases.

UNICEF has emphasized that affected families in Afghanistan urgently need shelter, warmth, safe water, and health services, and children have suffered the most damage.

The organization added that, alongside providing emergency assistance including shelter, toilets, and food supplies, it has also implemented programs to enhance climate resilience.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has announced that eight out of every ten Afghan citizens drink contaminated water.
