SIGAR: Taliban colludes with UN officials to extort money from international aid

This institution, on Wednesday, 22 Asad, accused the Taliban in a published report of extorting aid projects in collusion with United Nations officials.

The report states: "United Nations officials take bribes from institutions that receive contracts and share them with the Taliban."

SIGAR says that the Taliban has an ethnic bias in the distribution of aid; they make greater efforts to distribute aid in Pashtun-populated areas and have severely restricted ethnic minorities' access to international aid.

The report adds that only 30 to 40 percent of the total aid sent to Afghanistan has reached those truly in need.

SIGAR has revealed that an employee of an aid organization, an Afghan citizen, was killed for exposing the theft of food aid by a Taliban military camp.

However, the Taliban has rejected these claims.

This report comes at a time when more than 23 million Afghan citizens are currently in need of international humanitarian aid.

SIGAR, or the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction of the United States, states in a report that the Taliban is looting global aid through force and using it for their own benefit.
