A Turkmen cleric was appointed as the Taliban's ambassador to Türkiye.

Zia Ahmad Takal, the head of public relations at the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote in a newsletter on Wednesday (4 Saratan) that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, introduced Farhmand as the new ambassador to Turkey the previous day.

Muttaqi described the enhancement of Taliban’s relations with Turkey as a sign of “good cooperation and positive relations” between the two countries and expressed hope that this step would pave the way for further strengthening of bilateral ties.

The Taliban’s Foreign Minister also emphasized that with the appointment of the new ambassador, relations between the Taliban government and Turkey have become almost normalized.

It is worth mentioning that Turkey maintains relatively good relations with the Taliban; however, no country, including Turkey, has officially recognized the Taliban regime.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that Saniullah Farhmand, a Turkmen-origin cleric, has been appointed as the group’s extraordinary ambassador and plenipotentiary representative in Turkey.
