Mysterious murder of former military family; Taliban announce arrest of three suspects

This incident occurred on Monday, 27 Asad, in the village of Sultanpur, Surkhrod district.


According to local sources, the victims of this incident were members of the family of Esfandiar Talwar, a former member of the special anti-terrorism unit in the previous Afghan government.


Among the deceased are Talwar’s father, his wife, three daughters, and one son. It is said that the attackers used firearms and knives to kill the family.


The Taliban police command in Nangarhar, on Thursday, 30 Asad, issued a statement announcing the confession of the three detained individuals and described the motive for the murder as “personal and familial.”


The press office of the Taliban governor also announced that Azizullah Mustafa, the deputy governor of Nangarhar, has ordered intelligence and investigative institutions to identify and arrest other possible perpetrators of this incident.


Local sources stated that Esfandiar Talwar, a former member of the security forces, returned to Afghanistan from abroad after being informed of the incident.


Images of the three suspects have been published by media outlets close to the Taliban; however, no further details about their identities or the exact motive for these murders have been released so far.

Taliban authorities in Nangarhar province announced that they have arrested three individuals on charges of involvement in the murder of six members of a family in the Surkhrod district.
