Taliban police official: We wanted to kill journalists; But they ran away

Omar Mukhlis, who previously served as the Taliban police commander in Paktia, confessed during his farewell ceremony that they were pursuing and targeting journalists.

This Taliban official, accusing journalists of treason, stated: "We wanted to kill them and eliminate them. We were pursuing them, but they escaped and reached their masters."

He added: "At that time, the order was to kill the infidels, but now God tells me to obey God, the Messenger, and those in authority."

In a video obtained by us, Mohammad Omar Mukhlis is seen speaking in a harsh tone about media reports regarding his dissatisfaction with being removed from the Paktia police command: "The media should never be happy, because even if I become a soldier, I take pride in it."

It is worth noting that with the Taliban's return to power, journalists and media workers in Afghanistan have repeatedly faced violence, detention, torture, and imprisonment by the Taliban.

Over the past four years, hundreds of veteran and experienced Afghan journalists have left the country due to threats and fear of the Taliban. Meanwhile, hundreds of other journalists continue their work inside the country under severe restrictions and threats. At the same time, many journalists in countries like Iran and Pakistan are awaiting the processing of their refugee cases, facing an uncertain future and even the risk of forced deportation to Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

Mohammad Omar Mukhlis, the commander of the Taliban's third security zone in Kabul and a figure close to the Haqqani network, said during a gathering: "We wanted to kill all media workers, but they escaped."
