Taliban impose new restrictions on weddings in Balkh

According to this decision, the choice of venue and determination of ceremony costs are solely at the discretion of the groom's family, and hotel owners are not allowed to act contrary to this directive. It has also been emphasized that no more than one type of food and one type of stew should be prepared for wedding ceremonies.

The Taliban have warned that in case of non-compliance, wedding venues will be shut down, and their owners will face serious consequences.

These restrictions are seen as a continuation of the Taliban’s previous policies to control social gatherings. Earlier, orders were issued to stop music at weddings, hold evening gatherings briefly, and seat men and women in separate sections.

The new regulations have faced negative reactions from some families and wedding venue owners. According to local sources, people expect the Taliban to address livelihood issues and the economic crisis instead of focusing on restricting celebrations and public gatherings.

Local sources in Balkh province say that the Taliban, in a meeting with hotel owners in Mazar-e-Sharif, have imposed new regulations regarding the organization of wedding ceremonies.
