German Chancellor invites Ahmed Sharia to visit Berlin

Mr. Merz stated on Monday, November 3, during a press conference that the deportation of Syrian refugees would be one of the main topics of his discussions with Ahmad al-Sharaa.

This high-ranking German official added: "We will, of course, continue to deport criminal refugees to Syria. This is our program, and we will now implement it in a clear and practical manner."

He also expressed a desire for Germany to play a more active role in the process of establishing stability in Syria.

At the end of his remarks, Merz emphasized that the policy of accepting Syrian refugees must come to an end; since the civil war in Syria has concluded and there is no longer any reason for citizens of that country to seek refuge in Germany.

Ahmad al-Sharaa, President of Syria, is scheduled to travel to Washington later this month; a trip that, in the view of political observers, is seen as an important step toward ending Syria's international isolation.

In recent years, citizens of Afghanistan and Syria have made up the largest number of refugees in Germany. Nevertheless, the growing public dissatisfaction with the migrant acceptance process and the rise in influence of far-right parties have prompted the government of Friedrich Merz to adopt a stricter policy on asylum and prioritize reducing the influx of refugees in its programs.

Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of Germany, has announced that he has invited Ahmad al-Sharaa, President of Syria, for an official visit to Berlin.
