Taliban: Process of transferring Afghan prisoners from regional countries continues

Mohammad Yusuf Mostari, the general manager of the Prison Affairs Regulation Department, stated in an interview with Taliban state media that Iran has so far provided the most cooperation in this regard and has handed over a significant number of Afghan prisoners to Kabul.

Mostari emphasized that the largest number of Afghan prisoners are held in Iran and Pakistan; however, precise statistics on the number of Afghan prisoners in Iran are still not available.

Previously, one of the officials from Iran's Ministry of Justice said that over the course of ten years of activity by the special committee for the transfer of convicts, thousands of foreign prisoners have been returned to their countries.

In the fall of 1403, following the trip of Askar Jalalian, Iran's Deputy Minister of Justice, to Kabul, both sides reached an agreement to expedite the process of returning Afghan prisoners.

According to statistics from the Taliban's Prison Affairs Administration, in just the past year, more than four hundred Afghan prisoners who were sentenced to imprisonment in Iran have been transferred to Afghanistan in two stages.

On the other hand, Iranian officials have announced that the Taliban has also agreed to return Iranian prisoners who are imprisoned in Afghanistan. Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, said that the list of Iranian prisoners is to be provided to the Iranian embassy in Kabul so that the process of their transfer can begin.

Taliban prison administration officials have announced that contacts and negotiations with various countries to transfer Afghan prisoners to Afghanistan are underway.
